Monthly Reno Updates
Renovations to Harmony House began in the fall of 2007 and finished in June, 2008. Browse this section for reports and photos on the progress of its transformation from a church to a unique performance venue. We had hoped to deliver on our promise to make it a one-of-a-kind, cozy, "harmonious" place to be! We think it worked!
Kris, his brother Craig and carpenter, James began their work of art by removing the outer layer of the inside walls down to the studs. All of the windows were removed, the church steeple was partially dismantled, and then lifted off by a crane. AT [more]

Kris took great pride in planing his Douglas Fir beams (which were salvaged from a WWII airplane hanger!). He also had to have metal plates made that would secure them together when they were erected. So, lots of planning and details were needed fo [more]

Jack Frost has decided to pay a visit and overstay his welcome, so it's been a chilly few weeks on the site! Despite the cold, four brave men have been steadily working away at framing and finishing up the outside walls. I've heard a few friends fr [more]

Well, the new year has arrived and things are looking up at the Harmony House construction site! For the most part, the green steel roof is complete and as we speak, the hardy plank siding is being finished up on the outside. We're still in the pro [more]

It's official! Kris and I finally decided that Harmony House will be called a "theatre" rather than "performing arts centre". Not that we won't play host to the performing arts world, but just because we think "theatre" more accur [more]
March came in like a lion, so hopefully it will go out like a lamb! Things are getting busier by the day and we're really coming down to crunch time with all that's left to do before the theatre opens. I've settled on a new logo and it's definitely [more]

Well, I don't remember if March went out like a lamb or not? I think I would recall if it was an exceptionally nice, Springy day, so probably not. I do remember April 1st because I was trying to think of something to fool Kris with that morning. H [more]

With just over 6 weeks to go, it's hard to believe that Opening Night is this close! All the theatre needs now are a "few" (easy for me to say) finishing touches. I'm so happy that my very own office is all ready to move into! The picture you see [more]

Well, it's 5:57 a.m. and I've been awake for over an hour now. This is the way it's been for the past month! I wake up and my mind starts wandering, thinking about theatre details, what I have to do today, the kids, what I'm going to wear on openin [more]

Well, what a month it's been so far! Can you say, "emotional roller coaster"?? Fortunately, there have been more highs than lows! The season started off nicely with two nearly sold out opening nights. Kris and I felt it was almost like planning o [more]

I can't believe how fast the summer is flying by and it's almost "back to school" time for the girls. Time flies when you're having fun, as the saying goes. It's been a nice combination of "fun" and just plain "busy-ness". I've rather gotten caugh [more]

Wow, it seems like forever since I've written my monthly update! Well, I DID miss September, so now I'm combining two months into one. Seems like so long that I can't remember all that's happened in the past while. OK, there was Vishten, Hedgerow, [more]

Hunter River Goes National! I just wanted to let you see this story that was run in today's edition of the Globe & Mail (February 17th). You'll notice the pieces of siding missing from the top that were wisked away to the f [more]

Well, the fog has lifted after a fabulous weekend in Cornerbrook at ECMA. I don't even know where to begin to describe the musical euphoria that I felt at every moment of the trip. It started with a 9 hour bus ride to North Sydney. Mom and Dad [more]
