Richard Wood Trio to Give the Only Island Appearance this Summer at Harmony House Theatre
"Picture it: A graceful tune to start off a set, with beautiful zippering lines, played while caressing the fiddle to his ear, eyes closed, off in a serene realm in a dance with time, as he lures us there with him. Then a cutting strathspey to kick it into a higher gear as he whoops out loud and smiles at the crowd — a total of six reels in a row, all executed with flawless precision, pounding in rhythm, intoxicating in a firing energy, which brings about numerous fits of spontaneous applause from the crowd who spring to their feet in ovation immediately at the set’s end. Wood simply dropped every single jaw in the house — certainly making us all proclaim he is back, and he is better than ever." - Todd MacLean, Charlottetown Guardian
World-renowned PEI fiddler “extraordinaire”, Richard Wood will perform at Harmony House Theatre on Sunday, August 1st at 8 p.m. Joining him on stage will be Gordon Belsher on guitar and Brad Fremlin on piano. This will be the only Island appearance this summer for the full Richard Wood trio "experience". Award-winning step dancer, Cameron Francis is also slated to perform during the show.
2010 started with the PEI Music Awards gala show in January where one of the highlights was the “Fiddle Summit” fronted by Richard Wood along with six other world class Island fiddlers, backed by Gordon Belsher on guitar and Brad Fremlin on piano. The adventure continued to the Vancouver Olympics in February when Wood ignited a frenzied standing ovation at the jam-packed Atlantic Canada House pavilion.
Then Richard and Gordon embarked on a March sojourn that took them to Boston, then Florida for St. Patrick’s Day, and finally to Lyndon State College in Vermont. The word from audiences was that their performances were nothing short of “amazing”. They then continued to England for the Gosport Easter Festival, and to Ireland performing at concerts in Donegal and Ranelagh.
May included tours to Maine, Ontario, Quebec and Vermont. Richard, Brad & Gordon were a main attraction at the PEI Festival of Small Halls, selling out wherever they performed. Individually, all three have garnered kudos throughout the East Coast Music scene.
“Although we’ve toured extensively together, we seldom get to do more than a few numbers at most PEI performances” Richard says to nods of agreement from Gord & Brad. “It will be great to give the full show that we do everywhere else at home on the Island!”
