Here on the Island, early December days start to get shorter, darker, and colder. So how about kick-starting the Christmas season, with a night filled with lightness, comedy, and the brightest music east of Montreal?
In “The Island Christmas Review,” Patrick Ledwell and Mark Haines are taking the high spirits of their hit summer show, and launching them straight into new holiday territory. Join Patrick and Mark on December 5, 6, 12, and 13 at Harmony House in Hunter River, for a memorable sleigh-ride through the joys of the season.
The two enjoy creating shows that mix homegrown original comedy, and songs that move your feet and your heartstrings.
Writing about “The Island Summer Review” in summer 2013, Guardian columnist Todd MacLean called the show “a joyride of standup comedy and music that might just be one of the best ways to laugh at ourselves that has ever been done on P.E.I. … I personally just did not want it to end.”
Mark and Patrick are looking forward to bringing that blend to this new holiday-themed review, full of yuletide recollections, melodies, and remembered mishaps.
Patrick Ledwell (CBC Radio’s The Debaters, Come-All-Ye, The New Potato-Time Review) will perform comic slideshows that explore a range of helpful seasonal topics, from the dangers of traditional Christmas candy, to pitfalls to avoid when re-gifting last year’s presents.
Mark Haines (Come-All-Ye, Anne & Gilbert) will bring his multi-instrumental gifts to the stage, re-interpreting Christmas originals and favorites on guitar, fiddle, and piano.
“The Island Christmas Review” promises to be a one-of-a-kind evening, blending festive family comedy, storytelling, and music. Put it on your list for the start of December— it’ll get you right into the spirit of the season!
