A journey through the music and the people of the Mountains of Appalachia, stories and songs of family, home and a resilient people  that also resonated in the hills of Janet’s home in rural Prince Edward Island.

From the hills of Iona, Prince Edward Island to Music City USA, Janet McGarry has been a dominant presence in bluegrass music, both at home and abroad. She has shared stages with some of the most revered performers of this genre, and of her time.  Janet has recorded twelve albums to date that have earned her awards, accolades, and much deserved respect from the music industry.  In 2008, Janet was crowned a Daughter of Bluegrass, an all-female leading group of international bluegrass artists formed by Miss Dixie Hall & Lorraine Jordan, appearing as a lead artist on the cd “Bluegrass Bouquet”, the group’s third collaboration on Blue Circle Records, in Nashville, TN, as well as the Box Set of the Daughters of Bluegrass, “Pickin’ Like a Girl”, on the same label.

A five time Female Vocalist of the Year winner of the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Award (ECBMA), Janet remains the only artist with this industry’s “Master” distinction.  Her band, Wildwood, was also recently awarded “Gospel Performance of the Year”, and her milestone cd release “Wildwood Rose” was awarded “Album of the Year” in 2012.  Janet has achieved much acclaim for her heartfelt and crystal clear vocals.  Her voice and delivery capture the very essence of traditional songs.  Be it the most prestigious surroundings, or backstage at a local concert hall, Janet’s presence and music will make you feel at home.

With the release of her latest album “Forever is the Love”, Janet McGarry continues to carry on the tradition of presenting real, honest and heartfelt music.

Wildwood Members:

Janet’s husband, Serge Bernard is an accomplished instrumentalist, playing mandolin, guitar, fiddle, dobro, bass and his main instrument of choice – banjo.  Serge also produced/emceed/provided sound at various shows and festivals and was awarded the “Emcee of the Year”, “DJ of the Year” and “Promoter of the Year” at the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Awards and founded “Bluegrass Island” a bluegrass radio show airing for over 20 years on the Maritime’s oldest radio station 95.1 FM CFCY Charlottetown, Sunday evenings at 9:00 pm.  Serge also Produced, Engineered, Mixed and Mastered many projects for Island artists for Diamond Productions PEI.

Denise MacLeod grew up in the bluegrass music family “The Hay Family” from Hampshire, PE. At a young age, she took on the roll of fiddle player in the band and for many years, they were a mainstay at Island bluegrass festivals, and other venues throughout the Island.    Denise plays fiddle, and sings  lead and harmony vocals.

Island recording artist Dylan Ferguson is known for his love of traditional bluegrass and country standards and delivers a rich vocal performance that belies his age.  Traditional country, such as the music of Merle Haggard has been a big influence on Dylan.  It’s exciting to see his passion for tradition at such a young age, and that our music will continue in good hands.

Gail Mullen has been singing all her life, and it’s easy to see that she’s in her element when she’s singing.  Gail’s love of old time, folk, and traditional roots music from the Appalachian mountains shines thru, and she has the voice to do so.   In Janet’s band Wildwood, Gail plays bass, and sings lead and harmony vocals.
