“Atlantic Blue” – A Performance Celebrating East Coast Songwriters
Hosted by Tara MacLean with special guests Todd MacLean and Cynthia MacLeod
Finally, Tara MacLean is coming home.
After years of being “away”, touring, making records and having babies, Tara will be debuting her new show, Atlantic Blue, at Harmony House Theatre on July 23rd and 24th, 2016.
Tara MacLean is a 7th generation Prince Edward Islander. She learned to sing, play guitar and write songs from her Step-Father, singer/songwriter Marty Reno (www.martyreno.com) and from his musical partner, Gene MacLellan (Snowbird/Put Your Hand in the Hand). Her mother, acclaimed theatre and film actress Sharlene Maclean (www.sharlenemaclean.com) knew that even though Tara threatened to become a lawyer, her daughter would eventually end up onstage, after all, Tara is a thoroughbred Island talent. Her father, singer/dancer/actor Danny Costain, met her mother while he was performing in Anne of Green Gables at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. Ironically, Sharlene ended up playing Prissy Andrews, and he went on, in his later years, to play Mr. Phillips.
Most of Tara’s family are active the local arts community. Her sister, Bryde MacLean will be starring in the Noel Coward classic “Blithe Spirit” this summer (http://www.watermarktheatre.com/#!blithe-spirit/c10vu). We can’t forget that her beloved 82 year old grandmother, Madrien Ferris, plays the cantankerous “Granny Gallant” in the hilarious web series Just Passing Through.
And the list goes on…
All of this to say that Tara MacLean belongs here, with her artistic tribe, and Atlantic Blue is her way home.
At the age of 19, Tara was discovered by record executives while singing on a ferry boat. Before she could apply for law school, Tara was whisked away on a musical adventure that she never could have imagined. From there she went on to create three highly acclaimed solo albums, toured all over the world, made two more albums with her band SHAYE (with Kim Stockwood and Damhnait Doyle), had a reality TV show, appeared in films, made music videos, had countless songs placed in movie soundtracks and television, and won numerous awards as a songwriter and performer. Now she is going back to her roots.
Atlantic Blue is a celebration of Atlantic Canadian singer/songwriters through the ages. Tara will perform songs by her favourite east coast artists, as well as tell the incredible stories of their lives through vignettes compiled by Harmony Wagner and Jason Rogerson of Periscope Pictures (http://www.periscopepictures.com/) . The audience will feel as though they have truly experienced the cultural heart of Atlantic Canada through music and film.
Tara is very excited and honoured to be accompanied by PEI’s own Todd MacLean (http://globalchorus.ca/) and Cynthia MacLeod (www.cynthiamacleod.com).
Don’t miss this incredible performance, on for two nights only this summer! Get your tickets now as it’s sure to sell out!
