Tell Us a Good One

Everybody’s got a story. Maybe you’ve entertained your family or friends. Maybe it’s something you’ve told at a party, holding the floor, for a couple minutes in the kitchen.

How would you like a chance to share that story, and also some ideas about what could put even more play in its lines?

This April, Island comedian Patrick Ledwell will be holding a two-night session called “Tell Us a Good One,” at Harmony House Theatre in Hunter River.

The session will bring together a limit of 12 participants, each with an entertaining story to tell. The storytelling will centre on stories that are fairly short, and that are fairly true. Participants will tell their stories the first night, workshop ideas across the group, and then return in a week with a reshaped version to relate.

Throughout the two sessions, Ledwell will act as a guide on the side, bringing fun and helpful approaches to storytelling from reading and on-stage experience.

The storytelling sessions will take place Thursdays April 18 and 25, and run from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Registration which includes both sessions is $50 plus HST. To register, or of you have any questions, contact Patrick by email at

Advance registration is politely requested.

Ledwell has been telling funny stories in public for the last 13 years. He’s a regular on CBC Radio’s “The Debaters,” and during the summer season, performs with Mark Haines in the hit show “The Island Summer Review.” He has a background in English literature, including Masters work on Mark Twain and the art behind tall tales.

Harmony House is one of the Island’s most welcoming, intimate space for storytelling. The downstairs heritage restaurant will also be open before and after, if participants would like to enjoy a coffee, craft beer, or to sample Harmony House’s Burger Love offering.

This April, plan to come out to Harmony House and tell us a good one!
